I'm in a good place, and in a clunky job with rising stakes and possibly-mismatched ambitions. I have TWO daughters so beautiful and perfect that not even by the tears of angels could they be marred. My wife and I make a good team.
I've gotten over my fascination with Meyers-Briggs temperament indicators. Meta-thematic conversations used to be more entertaining than actually talking about something, but no more. Smashing the 4th wall isn't the postmodern thrill it once was.
Childhood images of nuclear annihilation used to terrify me, but now are a source of much fiction reading per capita. A lot of my personal history is wrapped up in the northern reaches of Alphabet City. I'm torn over rent control. I think unions are dinosaurs not desperately enough trying to find a new role. The more kids I have, the more I'm warming to the idea of school vouchers if not the implementation. The objections of teachers would carry a lot more weight if more suggestions were coming out of the teacher's union other than give us more money.
I like freer trade because it stops wars. I think many anti-globalists have their hearts in the right place, but rage against the WTO because it dared to raise their expectations and their own government doesn't listen or care. They want a world leadership forum that'll right all wrongs and injustices; what they got instead was the World Bank, the UN Security Council and the AU. I'd be pissed too.
I read the Economist, International Politics, Wilson Quarterly, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs and stratfor.com. I love soccer, and dislike most other sports. Cricket is fascinating, if only as performance art on the reapings of imperialism.
